Nagoro - The Japanese Village Where Dolls Outnumber People

The Doll Village - 8 years ago by

A village, called Nagoro, had a sad but predictable fate. It was a populated place once because of the dam nearby, but its inhabitants started leaving for the bigger cities and the bigger opportunites. Eventually the population dwindled down to 37 people. One of them is the artist Ayano Tsukimi. She decided to repopulate the abandoned fields and buildings with dolls the size of a person. Nowadays there are 350 dolls, ten times the number of the actual living people. Each of them represents a villager, who lived there in the past. Some are working the fields, others are studying at school. Watching them is endearing and slightly creepy.
