9 Great Charlize Theron Performances

- 8 years ago by

The stunning model-turned-actress has showed multiple times in front of the camera that she is incredibly talented and genuine while making a performance.

Let's take a walk through Charlize Theron's most memorable on-screen performances.

Mary Ann Lomax - The Devil's Advocate

One of her earliest Hollywood performances is in the supernatural drama The Devil's Advocate where she collaborates with Keanu Reeves and Al Pacino. With a husband overworking as a lawyer for a man who turns out to be the devil, her heroine becomes isolated, upset and mentally agitated, and soon she ends up committing suicide. The most famous scene in the movie is where she is naked with her body entirely covered with cuts.

Aeon Flux - Aeon Flux

Theron was born to play powerful heroines in dynamic sci-fi movies. After The Devil's Advocate she makes an impressive break-through playing rebelous assassin on a mission to bring down domineering government in Karyn Kusama’s Aeon Flux. The film is an adaptation of the popular animated series and Theron’s participation adds certain value.

Ashley Mercer - Reindeer Games

In this action crime drama Theron co-stars with Ben Affleck, who plays an ex-convict who steals his dead cellmate's identity (James Frain) and tries to hook-up with his girlfriend (Theron). As the plot uncovers the two main characters (Affleck and Theron) find themselves forced to participate in a dangerous casino robbery.

Karren Jennings – Trapped

In this suspense thriller Charlize plays an ex-nurse who has become a stay-at-home mum taking care of her asthmatic daughter (Dakota Fanning). Her life turns upside down when ill-wishers kidnap her child. Undoubtedly, with this complex character Theron  stuns the audience with an incredible talent and enchanting innocence. She delivers quite a remarkable performance playing desperate but impressively strong mother willing to do everything to save the life of her daughter.

Stella Bridger - The Italian Job

Although the 2003 film version is a remake of a 1969 classic, it still received high acclaim by the viewers and critics. And how wouldn't it considering its stellar cast featuring Donald Sutherland, Mark Wahlberg, Jason Statham, Edward Norton and last but not least Charlize Theron who adds a stunning female charm. Theron plays the daughter of a professional robber who is betrayed and murdered by a member of his own crew during a gold robbery. As her father's daughter, she appears to be a highly professional safecracker. This performance gave Theron the chance to demonstrate how perfectly suitable she is for playing in action movies.

Aileen Wuornos - Monster

In this riveting horror story, Theron makes one of her most memorable and high-acclaimed performances on the silver screen. Unsurprisingly, she won an Academy Award for Best Actress in a Leading Role and a Golden Globe award for Best Performance by an Actress in a Motion Picture - Drama in 2004. The movie is based on real events from the life of Aileen Wuornos, a prostitute who after being brutally raped, turned into a serial killer. Theron succeeds in embodying a deeply complex character. In the 1980s due to her lack of qualification skills and criminal record, Aileen has very hard time finding a job. In order to survive she becomes a prostitute. One night a very rough customer rapes and beats her badly. She kills him in self-defense. The storyline follows the descent of a woman, being a victim of a terrible crime, into a monster, who not only murders people but at some point finds it joyful. The movie depicts a tragic turn of events that eventually leads to more tragedy and injustice.

Woman - The Road

This highly powerful post-apocalyptic drama is based on Cormac Mccarthy's best-selling novel. The principle characters don't have names, they are simply called Father, Son and Mother. The main story is about a father (Viggo Mortensen) who is prepared to do anything to protect his only son (Kodi Smit-McPhee). They struggle to survive in a damaged world with no civilization left, no government, no laws. Theron's role is of a wife and a mother. She delivers another brilliant and high-impact performance.

Josey Aimes - North Country

For her role in North Country Theron received an Oscar nomination for Best Performance by an Actress in a Leading Role. The film is based on real-life events, portraying the lives of a group of women who became the first females to work in Minnesota's Eveleth Mines. They had to deal not only with hard work but also with a hostile environment, being insulted and sexually harassed. Theron plays a single mother who joins the group of women miners and she succeeds to deliver a heartful and deeply inspiring performance.

Furiosa - Mad Max: Fury Road

Charlize's role in this hard-to-forget dynamic movie is of Imperator Furiosa, an insanely fearless, smart, determinant and incredibly protective heroine. Although the movie has Max's name on it, admittedly, the big hero is Furiosa. She has taken Immortan Joe's five wives in order to save them from being inhumanly treated as breeders. Furiosa is a true warrior. The acting, dialogues, appearance - everything about Theron stuns with brilliance and authority. Directed, produced and co-written by mastermind George Miller, Mad Max: Fury Road is the fourth installment of the memorable ground-breaking steampunk post-apocalyptic 1970s and 1980s films which turned Mel Gibson into a great Hollywood star.

Which are your favorite films with Charlize Theron?

I very much enjoyed watching Charlize Theron as the evil queen Ravenna in Snow White and the Huntsman. Honestly, I think that Charlize had to be Cersei Lannister in Game of Thrones. Not that I don’t like Lena Headey, I do, but Charlize would have made it far more powerful Cersei.
