The North West Walls Festival In Werchter Belguim

Six ultra talented street artist spill their imagination on the giant canvas made by industrial shipping containers - 8 years ago by

For yet another year the village of Werchter in Belgium becomes the one of the most colorful and aesthetic places in the world, as it opens its doors for the 2015 edition of the North West Walls festival. The curator and creator of the North West Walls Arne Quinze came up with the idea to use a colossal constellation of shipping containers a few years ago and made it an international festival. Quinze began his graffiti career in the mid 80’s. He has gone through almost every stage of this passion – from giant public installations to a much smaller and intimate soul projects, always being influenced by the current of the street art. He also believes that there is an undeniably strong connection between street art and music and his new role as the main designer and curator for the North West Walls gives him a chance to offer to the people a platform that will deliver exactly that – the great scene for street artist across the globe filled with loud and various good music. This year he decided not to participate with his own art but invited six international street art protégés to show their talent on the enormous canvas. The huge containers have been given life this year by:

Gamma Gallery, USA

Gamma Gallery, an American artist who didn’t see art as his thing for quite some time after finishing school, but years later after the perfect circumstances he found his true calling – street art.

Fintan Magee, Australia

The Australian Fintan Magee has a degree in Fine Arts and practices in Sydney, where people call him “The Australian Banksy”.

Smug, United Kingdom

Smug from United Kingdom quickly found out that his true passion in life is graffiti and his resilience and hard work quickly turned him into one of the most talented muralists in the world. His astonishing work has amazing realistic look, almost like a photograph. He is famous for his precise work.

Pixel Pancho, Italy

The Italian Pixel Pancho has demonstrated yet again his amazing bio-mechanical style with his incredibly innovative robotic creatures mixed with the environments like beaches and forests and all kinds of Sci-Fi themes. He has an amazing versatility in his work using all kinds of interesting things like tiles, wall painting, sticker art and many more.

Nychos, Austria

The Austrian Nychos has a very unique underworld kind of style. His dissections of the human and animal anatomy mixed up with the visual hype of a comic book and some heavy metal thrown in there makes his style very distinguished and easy to spot and recognize. Just look for the wicked and dark tones of this graffiti magician.

Lula Goce, Spain

And last but definitely not least the Spanish Lula Goce, who is widely known around the world for participating in huge festivals and all kinds of art events like: The Santa Monica Arts Centre and the CCCB in Barcelona and even the Inoperable Gallery in Viena.

Each of them have left their soul into those towering crates with their illustrations full of color, amazing detail, vivid imagination, great level of professionalism and artistry and most of all – full of life. The installations will remain in the village for everyone to see all the way until late June in 2016, when a new group of talented artists will come forward to repaint the gigantic canvases, spilling out their imaginations on to them. Visitors can enjoy the work of these six great artists during the annual rock festival in Werchter and throughout the whole year to come.
