I’m sure all of you have encountered at least once in your life those people that cover themselves all in paint and pose like a statue and stand like that for hours without moving a single muscle. Some of them are actually pretty good but what artist Gigi Rodgers does just puts them all together in her pocket. Her idea is pretty similar but so innovative and thoughtful in so many ways. What Gigi does is she covers herself in acrylic paint in order to make herself look like an ordinary pencil drawn sketch. She is literally a came to life drawing. Then she photographs herself using different backgrounds and that way creates an amazing optical illusion on a scale never seen before.
Rodgers’ work is so captivating and full of diversity as she is creating both two-dimensional and three-dimensional environment for her photos with the use of so many clever tricks such as: great painting techniques and precisely done shading and many more. Her awe-inspiring work with colors and shades, her amazing talent to turn a sculpture into painting, the unbelievable contrast between the bright colorful backgrounds of her photos and the black and white technique of her body paint are all just a part of the things making this young artist’s work so incredibly dynamic and creative and just simply put – excellent!
