There are many monuments all over the world and countries with such historic and epic structures have been able to leverage on their existence to make some revenue as they become an attraction for tourists that troop into these countries yearly for a glimpse of these structures.
India has some of the greatest monuments worldwide, and some of these monuments are described below.
The Taj Mahal
This is arguably the world’s greatest monument. Build by Mughal Emperor Shah Jahan in memory of Mumtaz, who by the way was his wife he loved dearly, the white marble monument ranks as one of the Seven Wonders of the World.
It is a typical example of the Mughal architectural style and for some romantic feel gets a full-moon night view of the monument.
Gateway of India
Located in Mumbai, this monument is built combining the Hindu and Muslim architectural styles. The arch measures about 26 meters high with a central dome of 15 meters in diameter staying 26 meters above the ground. Lovers of cruises and sightseers find the piece very interesting and would do anything to visit the waterfront in Apollo just to have a glimpse of the monument.
The Qutub Minar
With a height of 72.5m, it is the tallest brick minaret in the world. A construction lasting for almost two centuries, the minaret is a perfect embodiment of Indo-Islamic style of architecture and was listed by UNESCO as a World Heritage Site.
The Hawa Mahal
This means the Palace of Winds and it has 953 windows facing the street with cool breeze flowing through the opening and this explains the name. It was constructed in 1799 by Maharaja Sawai Pratap exhibiting Rajasthani architecture greatly influenced by Mughal architecture.
Cellular Jail - Port Blair
The Cellular Jail in Andaman and Nicobar Island is a popular attraction also called Kala Pani. History has it that it was popularly used during the freedom struggle for India. The construction started in 1896 and was completed in 1906 with 7 wings and 98 cells.
Vidhan Soudha
Located in Bangalore, the Vidha Soudha is one of the major attractions here with a good blend of architectural style; it was constructed in 1950 using the Neo-Dravidian and Indo-Saracenic styles. It also has some Rajasthani architectural style and remains the largest Legislative building in India with an area of 700 by 350 feet.
