The awe-inspiring, breath-taking depth and texture of this artist - 8 years ago by

The famous sculptor and artist Calvin Nicholls showcased his latest sculpture series “Birds of Paradise” made especially for the Roger Tory Peterson Institute’s annual “Art and the Animals” in Jamestown, New York. As expected it turned out to be an amazing, awe-inspiring collection of some incredibly delicate and intriguing paper manipulation we have ever seen. The level of detail and preciseness in his work, alongside the amazing skills and passion of Nicholls’ work are something that really looks like it is out of this world. The artist really managed to show us the amazing amount of respect and passion he has for birds.

If we have to get technical, the structure of the series is a masterfully done mixture of 2D and 3D that in a very special way gives the images such realness and depth that it makes it look like they are coming to life while at the same time they are still just staying on the page he made them. The way Calvin is using the space and the splendid texture in his work are really something special. The technique which he uses to make the feathers of the birds will fool you in first sight and you may actually think they are absolutely real.

Overall, the precision in the development of the sculptures of the beautiful creatures roaming the skies above us is really showing us the devotion and love Nicholls has for them is evidence enough for the absurd amount of talent that he possesses and with the added eye for the detail and texture is the key to making his work a world class piece of art and one of the main reasons he is such a beloved and famous artist, known around the globe for his fabulous work.
