5 Jobs You Need Talent Rather Than A Degree For

Do you really need a diploma to find a great job? - 9 years ago by

Do you remember the times when your parents pushed you to study hard and pass your exams with flying colors? Teenagers who did not felt annoyed by the constant nagging are too few but at the end of the day there is no parent who wants their kids to become unsuccessful, disappointed adults with no perspective for getting a decent job.

No matter in which country you were born, excellent marks at school and university are commonly associated with great possibilities and a well-paid job.

In most cases, that’s how it works. You put the skills you have learned during your university years, into practice and slowly but surely grow into the hierarchy. However, what happens when your personal traits are not highly appreciated or you, for one reason or another, did not manage to get a college degree?

Admittedly, a diploma from a prestigious university is impressive to employers and your chances of getting hired are increasing. Yet, many people believe that the university degree does not determine your skills and it all depends on your personal traits how successful you will be. Not to mention people like Bill Gates, Thomas Edison or Steve Jobs who dropped out of school and concentrated all their efforts into something they considered more perspective than gaining a false confidence or unnecessary skills.

Don’t get me wrong. I do not disapprove the importance of the education. I am not going to convince you that everyone who leaves school will become as rich as the people mentioned above but below, you will find some vivid examples of well-paying jobs you need a flair for rather than a master’s degree.

Estate Agent

The business with renting and selling houses is flourishing and all you need is a few weeks of training and you are ready to start your career as an estate agent. Rest assured the percentage you get for every inked deal is really decent, given the fact some people work for the same amount of money two or three months.

Not everyone is suitable for that kind of job, though. First, you should be good at convincing people that the property you are renting/ selling is the best place they could ever find. However, you should also find the happy medium between convincing your customers without deceiving them. Plus, you have to know the area where you will sell pretty good and to be a really sociable person who easily makes contacts with buyers and sellers and makes them regard him as a friend rather than someone they are going to give a juicy commission to.

Hotel receptionist

The position of a hotel receptionist is perfect for graduates who have the courtesy and sociable skills to make any guest feel welcome within the hotel premises. Your only responsibility is to ensure the stay of each and every guest is a memorable one. Being well aware of the must – go places in the area is pretty useful, as out-of-towners usually ask the receptionist about the best places for dining and entertainment. This is the perfect start- up job that enables you to earn a good amount of money and improve your social and foreign language skills.

Chef

I bet you have at least one friend who is so good at cooking that you keep wondering how they know to mix ingredients so precisely that the end result is so delicious. Well, cooking requires passion rather than a degree. The chefs at the best restaurants around the world get incredibly high salaries while performing their favorite hobby - cooking. It is a job that requires you to be really organized and to work well in a team. The feeling you get when customers congratulate you on your good job must be awesome.

Sales representative

Have you ever counted how many commercials you watch every day and how many times annoying ads pop up on the screen of your computer or smartphone? There are so many manufacturers who want their products to become leading ones, so customers can find them in every store. In order to accelerate the process regarding the brand recognition, they need someone to convince the owner of the store of the advantages of offering the particular product in their store. Once again, the excellent communication skills substitute the college degree.

Call Centre Operator

If your friends and family describe you as an easy going, sociable and patient individual, then, the job of a call centre operator can be decent for you. It is a white-collar job requiring you to have the necessary skills for processing customers’ orders and doing your best to keep the reputation of the company untarnished by dealing with angry customers in the best possible way. Your salary can be even bigger if you are fluent in a foreign language and handle requests from international customers.

Nobody wants to have a job that makes them deeply distressed or the salary is so low that they can hardly make ends meet let alone to purchase a desired expensive item.

Although diploma indicates you are interested in a certain field or business, it still does not mean you will enjoy your job when you enter into the real business world. So, think twice before choosing your subject of study and don’t forget that the great social skills play a key role in becoming a successful professional regardless of the area of study.
