5 Signs Of A Bad Leader

- 8 years ago by

Not everyone can make a good leader. It doesn't matter how well-educated and immensely experienced you appear to be. When you lack of some particular skills your leadership will fail. Besides, poor leadership always has many-sided impact in the negative sense. First, it affects the employees, then it destroys the pillars of the organization. Bad leadership harms employee motivation and productivity; it can also lower their morale. Therefore, if you are up to become a good leader it's essential to develop an ability to read the signs of poor leadership in order to avoid problems.

Poor communication skills

You know you have a poor leader when he or she spends too much time away from the office ignoring employees' calls, messages and emails. Poor communicators rarely listen to others, they even might interrupt the one who is talking in an impolite way. Bad leaders care far too less about their employees' opinions and concerns. They are capable of withholding information or misleading (un)intentionally staff regarding  company policy updates or any additional procedures.

Lack of empathy

When a leader lacks of empathy, he is no leader. Empathy is one of the most important skills in leadership. The inability of a manager or a boss to put herself or himself in their employees' shoes and put things into different perspective, they will never make it a great leader, therefore, their organization won't progress to succeed.

Indifference to progress

Indifference is always driven by fear of change (or failure) which comes as a key indicator of poor leadership. True leaders have no fear of change. They live to see the effect of the change they have initiated. When in make-or-break situation they are in element. Being a leader means that you should be prepared to make some tough decisions from time to time and if you aren’t able to overcome fear of failure you will never come up in the world. Leaders are front-runners. They take risks and rise to challenges.

Lack of personal skills to make adequate assessments

A good leader must know how to establish and maintain healthy and productive relationships with their employees. To put it simple, a leader should be a strong judge of character. Perhaps it will be better if he/she does not maintain too close relations with their co-workers. It is a matter of moral, but more importantly, it is about establishing authority. If a leader cannot do that, well, he or she will never get it made.

Inability to motivate and solve conflicts between staff members

Some leaders feel powerful and free to express their negative judgment. They act as they know it all. Such leaders appear to be totally incapable of motivating their staff and make them work as a team. Usually they tend to favorite one or two of the co-workers and give them special treatment such as easy assignments and involvement in highly credential projects that will inevitably have their salary increased. As a result, employee conflicts will emerge ending with someone getting the sack. A poor leader has no idea how to solve staff problems so he will just fire someone. This kind of pitiable leadership comes from people who are completely out of balance. They certainly have some personal issues - perhaps their love life is not going so well, which reflects on their attitude towards people in the work place. This is wrong, let alone totally unprofessional.

Not all leaders are equally skilled. Some are natural born leaders, while others need training to cultivate certain skills and unleash hidden talents. Keep in mind that employees tend to remember their worst leaders longer than the ones that were exceptionally creative and good at their job.

Good leaders always see the writing on the wall and come up with an alternative course of action. If you want to evolve and be like them then learn to identify the most common warning signs of a bad leadership.
