Over the years, Halloween has grown from a superstitious practice against evil spirits to a media driven and highly anticipated holiday not only for kids but also for people of different religions. Today, millions of people in multiple countries eagerly wait for the end of October to celebrate Halloween. The most passionate among fans don’t waste time and soon start preparing for the Big night choosing costumes and decorating their homes in order to bring the Halloween spirit.
Looking back at history, the roots of Halloween can be traced to ancient Celtic-speaking countries (Ireland and Scotland) somewhere around the time of Christ. This is why, the Gaelic and Welsh influence has major part in the folklore and beliefs relating to Halloween. The Celtic and Welsh followed a tradition which involved observing the end of summer sacrifices to gods. It was believed that Samhain, the lord of death, sent evil spirits to scare and attack people. The only way for humans to survive was through a clever disguise that would make them look like the evil spirits.
